Some time back I asked the net for an XFCN to determine if a machine is

Here is Guide To XCMDs 1.3, a HyperCard stack.
[Moderator: replaces any previous versions of Guide To XCMDs.]
This is the catalog of my own collection of XCMDs. It is
distributed for two reasons: (i) you can use it to keep
track of your own collection, as it has a number of cool but
simple features; (ii) as I am a fairly avid collector,
it gives you some idea what XCMDs (public) are out there --
that is, it helps to answer the question, "is there an XCMD
to...?". The list is necessarily selective and finite, but
it could be pretty helpful.
Note that no XCMDs are included with the stack, and that I
cannot send any (big email charges from NZ, alas). I do not
tell you where to get them, but they have all been
on sumex or umich or some other major archive in the last
few years, and you should certainly try Ken Fisher's neat site
snyoneva.cc.oneonta.edu [137.141.15.10]. I include email
addrs of authors where the XCMD stacks provide them.
Many improvements over the previous versions (of July 1992
and Feb 1993): more XCMDs, quite a number of scripting
bug fixes.
OK to put on a CD or otherwise distribute freely.

Subject: Paths in HyperCard (re-post -last may have been corrupt)
Here's (a hopefully corrected) guided Paths facility for HyperCard.
This enables authors to create a guided path through any number
of stacks and save any cards in any order into a linear path
that can be re-played later. Each card on the path can also
have meta-information associated with it that will be displayed in
a separate window if desired.
This may be a good facility for aiding novices through a system
when they don't know the navigational conventions used in different
stacks. They may use the path palette which provides a standardised
navigational interface.
A History function is also included that saves every card that is visited
in the system - whether it is on the path or not. This can be used
for direct navigation and it can also be used in the direct creation
of new paths using the langth of visit data as a criterion for
inclusion in a new path.
This is being released as "Friendly-ware :-)" which is explained in
the stack. Hope you like it.

Here is HyperCard 2.2 Help, a small text-displying app which

This is *much*, *much* better and far more painstakingly put
together than my earlier HC-Help and HT-Help DAs, which it
replaces. By study and testing I have found *numerous* errors
in the HyperCard and HyperTalk manuals, and some in the Help and

want to take a look at it. Whether you have bought HyperCard 2.2,
and need to know what the *real* facts are, or whether you have
come across your copy of HyperCard 2.2 in some other way and do
not have the manuals, this app should help you. It also answers
a number of FAQs (and in future I will try to incorporate more).
I *will* try to maintain this so please email me suggestions.
This app is a "Misebirakasu" (an app by Christopher K. Thomas),
which means that you have the additional benefit of being able to
Find and Copy text from it.
You can also modify the text yourself to suit your own needs
(using ResEdit, for example), but please do *not* redistribute
a modified version to anyone.

HyperMacro is an INIT that makes it much easier to
enter scripts in HyperCard. It contains the following
features:
1. It responds automatically to many actions. For
example, if you type:
on BigHandlerName
then after you press Enter, HyperMacro supplies the
'end BigHandlerName'
There is a similar response to 'function,''if-then,'
'exit,' 'pass,' 'repeat' and more.
2. You can scroll back in your script as far as you like,
and then have any selected text instantly copied to
the point where you are currently editing.
3. There are ten extra paste buffers (Clipboards).
4. You can move around more easily.
5. There are numerous glossary macros that simplify
entering text.
6. Holding down the Shift key while pressing Return or
Enter will repeat the previous line. Or you may choose to
repeat only a portion of the previous line.
7. HyperMacro can often anticipate your scripting actions
using what are called 'Initial Macros.' For example, if you
type 'g' and then press the space bar, HyperMacro will expand
this to 'global.'
And much more!
HyperMacro 1.1 is FreeWare but NOT public domain.
Changes in Version 1.1:
1. Version 1.1 is not sensitive to the name the user assigns to HyperCard.
2. Version 1.1 still works even when the Watch Variable and
Watch Message palettes are open.
3. CBT or CHB will expand to "Choose Browse Tool"
4. HyperMacro 1.1 works if the scripting messages are French or German.
5. A few technical changes and minor bug fixes.
6. Portions of the manual were redone.

Here is RunOSAScript XFCN v.0.72 for HyperCard 2.1, by Donald Olson.
It was originally included on an AppleScript beta CD; it is being
posted and submitted to the net archives with the author's permission.
The XFCN accepts an AppleScript in text form as an argument,
and executes the script if it is valid. It is probably easiest
to write, test, and debug AppleScripts using the Script Editor.
See the stack script and "Execute" button scripts for error checks
and calling syntax. The AppleScript example uses Finder 7.1.3 for
simplicity, but you can use any valid AS commands or scripts that
invoke other AppleScriptable software.
Requires AppleScript and HyperCard 2.1. AppleScript is included
with a tutorial book from BMUG called "The Tao of AppleScript",
ISBN 1-56830-075-1. I've heard that there is another Applescript
book by Danny Goodman that also includes the AppleScript software;
that book may be of interest to people who like Goodman's HyperCard
books, and those who intend to use AS with HC.

.971 by Robertson Reed Smith. This is an old HyperCard 1.2.x stack that
has a lot of neat goodies in it, including scripts, icons, animations,

asking about it, and I couldn`t find it on any of the archives, so here
it is. This is the most current copy I know of, if someone has a later
version, please post it. Robertson, if you`re out there somewhere, I
hope you`re considering a HyperCard 2.x (3.x?) version of this stack.
CAUTION: this stack was meant for version 1.2.x and has some
difficulties with version 2.x. A couple of the externals aren`t greatly
happy with my configuration, either (System 7.1/HC2.1). It is quite
easy to get into a situation where it is necessary to bail out via the
reset switch or by Command-Option-ESC. Nevertheless, it has some fun,
interesting, and useful stuff in it.
